Mixed media - illustrative type and geometric shapes
The image part of this piece reminds me a lot of the geometric abstract experimentation that I produced for part of my 'Product, Range and Distribution' brief and is something that I am interested in experimenting with further.
I like the combination of colour in the photographs and the black and white line work and type.
The message is also the kind of message that I am going to play around with for some of my summer work. Quotes and and small meaningful sentences... maybe adding in some lyrics.
Mixed media - island collage
I really like this image. The texture in the background is something that I want to look into more during this summer as I have not yet perfected how to do it to make it look effective, mine always turn out looking like I've simply put a photograph behind the image and it looks rough and rushed (even when it is not).
Another aspect of this that I like is the fact that it is hard to distinguish whether this has been done by hand or put together in photoshop. The range of colours also add impact to the image.

Poster - For a friend
I have been asked by a friend to design them a large poster for their new house.
They have asked for a mixture of imagery including a rainbow, snowdrops, a peacock and an assortment of different feathers.
She also wants type - specifically this quote.
"If i find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that i was made for another world"
I am seeing this as a chance to explore different ways of putting a poster together. Different illustration styles and methods of making a piece of art into a method of communicating a message.
The principle thing that I need to keep in mind with this is that it is, essentially, a brief to produce something that will look aesthetically pleasing, rather than trying to promote, sell or educate its audience. It is very much an audience and subject led brief. The audience being Natalie and the subject being the assets of the poster that she has asked for.
I am going to do this in my own style, mixing media and trying out both illustrated and computer-rendered type to get the best result.
My first brief of the summer. Feels very good to be back doing work. I feel a lot more focussed this year, I think looking at the 3rd year FMP blogs really pushed me into wanting to produce a lot this summer to get myself ready for the work-load of level 06.

bringthenoiseuk.com e-flyer and .gif banner
So the editor of bringthenoiseuk.com has got into contact with me and asked me to design them an e-flyer and an animated banner for the site.
The e-flyer is to send out in mass e-mails to bands, promoters, contributors and general readers of the magazine.
The banner is to go at the top of the actual website and to foot the e-mails.
I am excited about doing this as it is a field that I haven't really worked in in the past. I am going to focus very much on the theme as this is a very audience driven brief. The website is all about alternative music... giving reviews, interviews and much more information about the scene.
The e-flyer needs to show exactly what the website does and is about. The banner just needs to accompany the design of the website to add dimension with animation.
This is very much a design for screen brief, which I am excited about, and it is actually commissioned work which will get examples of my work out there into the big wide world. How scary/phenomenally exciting.
